What is Wärk:fest?

Wärk:fest is a family-friendly festival of science, art and technology. This faire of makers bring together hobbyists, engineers, hackers, artists, students and enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds. A maker is anyone who appreciates Do-It-Yourself spirit and wants to show their creations and share their learnings. Likewise and in the name of curiosity, many participants are eager to learn new things and skills, maybe trying areas and methods they have never considered! It is a great way to bring ones ideas and passion in front of others and encourage them to participate.

This year we organize the event with the name Wärk:fest, as honoring our roots with the event. The place of event is at the Iso Omena library and it will be held on the eve of the Fathers Day – Sat 10.11. The orginizing parties are Wärk ry, Espoo City Library and Aalto Fablab. We are expecingt to meet again several thousand participants, as last year we had over 4000 visitors. The entrance is free for everyone.

Makers range from tech enthusiasts to crafters to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers. They are of all ages and backgrounds, covering large areas from all type of genres . The aim of Wärk:fest is to entertain, inform, connect and grow this eager and curious community. You can meet makers at the event at the maker booth or at the stage, and learn new skills at the booth or at the workshop. We encourage visitors to participate, to take part on maker booths and workshop!

First Wärk:fest was organised in 2012 at Cable Factory in Helsinki. Then our festival has been organized almost yearly. Last year the event was under the name Espoo Mini Maker Faire with the Mini Maker Faire licence and was likewise hold in Espoo City Library. More information from last year’s event can be found from http://espoo.makerfaire.com/
